Mattel Exempted from Testing Requirements

Allowed to use Internal Labs Instead of Third Party

Posted 9/1/2009 by Ben Clark

The Purple Pawn picked up a story from the Daily Breeze that Mattel has been exempted from the Third Party testing requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. Given Mattel's history, it should come as no surprise that this decision was done without any fanfare.

Mattel's internal testing labs, located mostly overseas, were declared to be sufficiently firewalled from the rest of the company. Thus, Mattel is not required to submit its products to third party testing services.

More detail, and a link to the source article, are available at the Purple Pawn web site.
